Open Call starts July 31, 2025
Mas Palou invites artists of all disciplines and all countries to apply for our 5th Art Residency, taking place here on February 26 – March 8, 2026.
We’re looking for projects with subversive potential. Works that reimagine the world and challenge the status quo.
Any discipline is welcome. Over the years, we’ve hosted photographers, writers, musicians, researchers, illustrators, designers, filmmakers, chefs, sculptors, ceramists, textile artists, sound artists, and more.
For context: This is a self-funded project with no outside grants or institutional backing, which allows us to choose the artists we host independently and offer them both creative freedom and complimentary accommodation. We’re not the Getty Foundation or the Medicis. This is a small, family-run business. We farm grapes, welcome guests, and host weddings for a living. Still, we make a real effort to set aside part of our resources to make this possible. Thanks for understanding!
What do we offer?
• An 11-day residency for up to 7 artists or collectives
• Accommodation in our countryside guesthouses, Cal Joaquim and Cal Lluís
• As accommodation, each project will be assigned one room (teams share a room if the project includes more than one person). Just you or your collective, there won’t be strangers in your room. Bathrooms will be shared with other artists
• You will live and work surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. We hope to offer a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your work and with others
• There will final public presentation on Saturday March 7, 2028 here in Mas Palou to share or discuss your work with the local community and whoever wants to attend
How much is it?
There is no cost for accommodation. Artists are responsible for:
• A €35 application fee (one fee per project, not per person)
• Travel, materials, and meals (fully equipped kitchens are available)
Selection
We’re looking for projects with subversive potential. Works that reimagine the world and challenge the status quo.
Artists will be selected based on:
• How the project/artist will benefit from a residency
• The artistic merit of the proposed project and past work samples
• The feasibility/logistics of the project while at Mas Palou, including project needs during the course of the residency
We value diversity in all its forms and aim to bring together artists across cultures, disciplines, identities, and perspectives. We’re looking for thoughtful, committed artists who will make the most of this time and contribute to a spirit of creative exchange.
It is not required to leave any of your art at Mas Palou but if you wish to, we will happily show it in our facilities for our guests and visitors to see, as some of the past residents have done in the past. Happy to see you perform, read your work, etc, too! Thank you.

What to expect
This is a self-directed residency with a strong emphasis on community. Artists will share living spaces, outdoor spaces, and meals and are expected to contribute to a warm, collaborative atmosphere.
• Welcome dinner on the first evening and probably another meal or get together
• Most days are unstructured to allow for focused creative work
• Communal dinners encouraged; a couple grocery runs to the market will be organized
• While there is no formal mentorship or curatorial support, we believe in the value of self-direction, organic exchange, and peer-to-peer inspiration
• To be confirmed one or two hangouts with local artist community
More logistics
• Shared indoor and outdoor spaces available to think and create (important: no formal studios or tools provided)
• The guesthouses have access to high-speed wi-fi and on-site laundry facilities, too.
• Unfortunately our guesthouses are not wheelchair accessible
• Main working language: English
• Open to artists of all backgrounds and career stages, aged 18 and up
• International applicants are welcome, though we cannot sponsor visas
• Previously rejected applicants may apply again
• If requested, Mas Palou will supply signed letters of support for outside funding
Work areas
- Communal work space: there is a spacious coworking area with several desks next to the guesthouses that can be used by resident artists
- Each of the two guesthouses has common areas to work
- All outdoor areas can be used and there is plenty of nature at walking distance
- In case an artist needs a private space we will do our best to accommodate them
How to apply
Applications will be submitted via a this form and require:
• A portfolio link
• A short artist bio
• A project proposal (new projects and works-in-progress are welcome)
• A €35 application fee (payment link in the form)
We will photograph and share moments from the residency and final presentation on our channels to help amplify the work of our resident artists.
